TROUBLESHOOTING YOUR TUMBLE DRYER

We understand how frustrating it is when a trusted home appliance breaks down, and if you’ve bought your machine from us, we want to help you resolve the issue as soon as possible.

If your appliance is still under guarantee, please carry out a few simple checks as we advise below, and also check your manufacturer's manual (especially if your machine is displaying an error code) before you go to the trouble of calling our Technical Support line.

My tumble dryer keeps stopping/is too hot

Try not to mix clothes made of different fabrics - natural fibres dry more slowly than synthetics and can be dried at hotter temperatures.

  • Make sure that the cycle you've selected is right for the load being dried
  • If you’re able to, use a sensor cycle instead of a timed cycle - this saves energy and prevents heat build up from over drying
  • Please remove any debris and clean your filter - follow the instructions below or in your user manual
  • Check and clean your condenser unit - follow the instructions below or in your user manual

My tumble dryer isn’t drying properly

This may be caused by a blocked filter or condenser unit, or you may need to empty the water reservoir.

  • Remove any debris and clean your filter - follow the instructions below or in your user manual
  • Check and clean your condenser unit - follow the instructions below or in your user manual
  • Make sure your machine’s water container/reservoir is empty

It may also be caused by the temperature of the tumble dryer's environment or the airflow around it. If you're using your machine in a garage or outbuilding and the temperature drops below 5°C, it won't be able to condense properly and your washing will remain cold and wet. This isn't a fault with the machine.

The only solution will be to move your appliance indoors or to heat the outbuilding in some way.

My tumble dryer isn't working/turning on

It may sound obvious, but, check the connections to make sure your tumble dryer is plugged into the mains and switched on.

If it is, can you check the Residual Current Device (RCD) in your consumer unit (known as the fuse box)? Has this tripped? If so, you may need to reset by flicking the switch. If you don't feel confident about doing this, or it happens more than once, the please do consult an electrician.

How do I clean the fluff filter/empty the water container/reservoir?

To clean your dryer filter:

  • .Find the fluff/lint filter on your machine (check for the location in your instruction manual)
  • Pull out the filter and clean the fluff build up
  • If there is a large quantity of fluff you could remove it using a vacuum cleaner
  • Clean the filter out each time you use your dryer to ensure your machine works efficiently

For condenser dryers with a water container:

  • Simply pull the container out towards you, remove it fully from the dryer, empty it and re-insert
  • It's worth doing this regularly

How do I clean the condenser?

If you find that your condenser dryer is taking a long time to dry, then this could be due to a build up of fluff in the condenser:

  • Refer to the instruction manual for specific guidance
  • Locate the condenser on your tumble dryer, remove it and run the body of it under cold water to remove any build up
  • Refit the condenser and use as normal
  • Clean the filter and condenser regularly to keep your machine working efficiently
